Former high school prom queen and current writer of a used-to-be-popular young adult book series, Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) returns home to her small hometown upon hearing of the birth of her high school boyfriend’s new baby.

Stuck in her high school days, Mavis is a complete bitch to former classmates and insists she can win back he ex-flame, regardless of his happy marriage and life.

Mavis soon finds out her former friends and family feel sorry for her and the person she has become.

Charlize Theron was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) for her role in Young Adult.

I’m up in the air as whether or not to recommend Young Adult. Even though the Golden Globes classified the film as a comedy, it is not. Sure, there are some funny parts, but overall the film is more depressing than anything.

Young Adult is is rated 7.0/10 on IMDB and is 82% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 71/100 Metascore.
