SPRINGDALE, AR – The Naturals’ parent club, the Kansas City Royals announced two transactions on Wednesday affecting the Northwest Arkansas roster Tim Sexton was transferred from Extended Spring Training to the Naturals. Kendal Volz was placed on the seven-day disabled list.
Sexton was signed by the Royals as a minor league free agent. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2007 June Free Agent draft out of Miami Dade Community College.
The 24-year-old split last season between Class-A Great Lakes and Triple-A Albuquerque going a combined 6-12 with a 5.48 ERA in 29 games (28 starts), logging 162.2 innings of work. He last pitched in Double-A as a member of the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Southern League during the 2010 season.
Volz had been one of the best relievers so far this season for the Naturals. He posted a 3-1 record with a 2.19 ERA in 16 games. The right-hander converted six out of his nine in save opportunities and allowed just 16 hits in 24.2 innings of work.
Following the transaction, the Naturals’ roster is at the Texas League limit of 25 active players. Sexton will wear number 24 for the Naturals and Paulo Orlando is changing his number to 16.
